Abstract
The essence of divan poetry (classical Ottoman poetry) is language. The divan poet chose words carefully, gave importance to words of color, and expressed his emotions, dreams and thoughts in a bright and colorful way by imbuing colors with a symbolical meaning. In the aesthetics of divan poetry one of the most commonly used colors by the divan poet is black. The divan poet made large use of the black color and its associations in his descriptions of nature and humanity. This study handles Baki’s Divan in terms of the use of the black color and aims to explore its major characteristics. Doc.
