Abstract

This article revisits the epic in its fundamental characteristics described by Aristotle when examining the Odyssey and emphasizes the importance of looking at the ancient form as a basis for understanding modern and contemporary forms of literature. It starts from the examination of the form, content and intention of the epic work and shows that Modernism, even wanting to break with the classic structures, these still remain in the imagination of those who read, studied and adapted for the cinema the classic of Brazilian Modernism, Macunaíma by Mário de Andrade.
