Abstract

The sequential histochemical features of experimental osmotic nephrosis were studied in rats. Male Wistar albino rats were injected intraperitoneally with 3 ml of a 1.12 molar solution of sucrose and killed 2, 3, 6, 10, 18, 24, 28, 32, 40, 49, 72 and 96 hours afterwards. Kidneys were studied by light and fluorescent microscopy with histochemical demonstration of the sites of activity of a variety of enzymes (alkaline and acid phosphatase, non-specific esterases, ATPase, TPPase and NADH-TR). Levels of acid phosphatase activity were determined in urine and serum.
