Abstract

This is an exploratory study conducted to identify senior managers’ perceptions of shared leadership in hotels in a small emerging economy in the Caribbean. The study involved analysis of data from a sample of senior managers in each of the 46 of 75 hotels on the island and utilized the Team Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire. Regression analyses revealed team transformational leadership was a significant predictor of extra-effort and effectiveness. It was also found that team non-transactional leadership was a significant predictor of satisfaction. The research implies that shared leadership when practiced by senior managers in hotels in Barbados may achieve higher results in relation to extra-effort and effectiveness.
