Abstract
A visible-light-induced, self-catalyzed multi-component reaction has been established, delivering a facile and atom-economic method to 3,3-disubstituted oxindoles with wild functional group tolerance and good to excellent yields under photocatalyst-, oxidant- and base-free conditions. The process involves photocatalytic Friedel–Crafts type coupling, halogenation, and oxidation reactions, which makes it practical and attractive. Moreover, this strategy contributes to the development of an efficient protocol for accessing electrochemically active 3,3-disubstituted oxindoles, which have potential applications in flow batteries.
