Abstract
In most horticultural crops, phosphorus (P) containing fertilizers are applied at higher doses to increase P uptake in plant parts. The present investigation was formulated with a broader objective of comparative evaluation of effective phosphorus management approaches on yield attributes and biochemical characteristics of brinjal during Rabi season of 2021–2022. A pot experiment was conducted under completely randomized design in the net house of Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry of Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, Bhagalpur (Bihar) with Brinjal var. Sabour sadabahar as the test crop subjected to 10 different treatments replicated thrice. The treatments were T1: Control, T2: 100% RDF, T3: 80% RDP(Basal), T4: 60%RDP(Basal), T5: 80%RDP(Basal)+Seed Nutripriming, T6: 60% RDP(Basal)+ Seed Nutripriming, T7: 80%RDP(Basal)+foliar spray at 14 and 35 days, T8: 60% RDP(Basal)+foliar spray at 14 and 35 days, T9: 80%RDP(Basal)+Priming + foliar spray at 14 and 35 days, T10: 60%RDP (basal)+ priming + foliar spray at 14 and 35 days. As clear from the results obtained, foliar application and seed nutripriming with phosphorus when combined with basal application resulted in an increased P concentration in brinjal which ultimately contributed toward higher P uptake and use efficiency. This application method also had a positive effect on important biochemical characteristics of Brinjal esp.TSS, antioxidants and phenol content. Approaches besides basal supplementation like foliar application and seed priming should be promoted to reduce the P fixation and immobilization in the soil and efficiently enhances the P use efficiency and biochemical parameters which in turn had a positive influence on the yield and yield attributes.
