Abstract

Although somewhat out of touch with science in schools in northwest England and preoccupied with science education in Northern Nigeria, I was interested in the contribution by D. G. E. Martin on attititudes to school science, in the February issue of the Bulletin. I was surprised to read that the use of better qualified staff on teaching lower-stream pupils and courses which do not lead to scientific careers is considered wastage. It was not clear to me whether lower-stream pupils meant the less able, the nonscientists, or the lower forms, i.e. pupils in the first two years.
