Abstract

Science of Religions and Human Sciences. The Work of Mircea Eliade (1907-1986). In 1949, Mircea Eliade published his Treatise of History of Religions, in which one finds the seeds of his whole work. The great novelty of the work consists in assigning to history of religions the task to explore the conscience, thought, behaviour and experience of the Homo Religiosus. This last one thinks there exists an absolute reality, the sacred, which transcends this world but manifests itself in it. Eliade did study four essential elements in the experience of the Religious Man : the sacred, symbol, myth and rite. He cleared three paths of research : history, phenomenology and hermeneutics. This last one consists in the study of the message of the Homo Religiosus, a study which orients toward the creation of a new humanism.
