Abstract

The article presents partial results of a master's research, in progress, which aims to analyze the causes of evasion in the Technical Course in Systems Development, of the Serviço Nacional de Aprendizagem Industrial (SENAI-SC), unit of Florianópolis, and propose intervention actions to reduce dropout rates in that course. In the search for answers to the dropout problem, available institutional data and information are analyzed. For this, basic concepts of Professional and Technological Education are taken as a reference for the analysis; among which stands out the purpose and role of an education focused on work and the integral formation of subjects. The studied course meets an important demand in the training of workers to meet the needs of industries and companies in the metropolitan region of the capital of Santa Catarina. However, it appears that the dropout rate in 2022 was 36%, that is, for every 10 students enrolled in the said course, at least 3 of them dropped out. Among the identified causes, failure and difficulties in monitoring the course stand out. Therefore, it is recommended to implement reception and pedagogical follow-up actions, extra tutoring and monitoring classes for students with difficulty in specific subjects, among other strategies to face the problem
