Abstract
The interaction of light with a cluster of charged spherical particles is studied. The electromagnetic field is expanded in terms of the vector multipole fields, and the expansion of the scattered field is related to that of the incident field. The dimer and the chainlike and disordered arrangements of ten particles are studied. Features of the absorption and scattering signals can be used to measure the charge. This paves the way for the optical measurement of a nonspherical dust particle charge in a plasma since a cluster of spherical particles may approximate a nonspherical one.
