Abstract

The traditional offices, where organizational activities are accomplished and where managers and the workers work, have given place to virtual offices within the conditions of the Knowledge Society. The virtual office doesnt’t have a physical space and the activities are performed through web sites by use of information and communication technologies (ICTs). ICTs compass any form of audio, visual, printed and written tools which enable the production and transfer of and access to knowledge. Relying on the technological advancements of today, computers and softwares, modems, satellite dishes, mobile phones, networks, multimedia and e-mails come forward as new ICTS. The functionality and the productivity of virtual offices depend on employing educated personnel, as well as the use of the modern ICTs and having a suitable technological infrastructure. The four dimensions of these technologies are the software, hardware, equipment and service. The alignment within these dimensions and the mutual support between them increase the effectiveness of the virtual office. Therefore the concept of virtual office and the ICTs have to be evalutaed interconnectedly. In this connection, the purpose of this paper is to examine the virtual offices and the technologies used in these offices
