Abstract

Objective: to describe the current state of the health-related components of the comprehensive life development plans of four indigenous organizations of the Vaupés department, in the Amazon region of Colombia. Methodology: search, collection, critical reading and analysis of the contents of the comprehensive life development plans of four indigenous organizations of the Vaupés department. In addition, these plans were compared with the municipal and departmental territory development plans. Results: the comprehensive life development plans and the territory development plans fail to develop their health-related components strategically. Furthermore, the health sections of the plans are unspecific enunciations appearing in several parts of the documents, which hinders their monitoring and evaluation. Discussion: the territorial institutions and indigenous organizations have shortcomings in the planning processes used to create the health components of their plans. If this situation persists, it will be impossible to implement the interventions required to improve the health situation of the indigenous ethnic groups of the area. Governmental, non-governmental and academic institutions should take action in a decided and combined effort in order to improve this situation.
