Abstract

This article is devoted to the understanding of bilateral relations between the Russian Orthodox Church and government bodies in the 1970s - 1990s. Authors analyze the relationship between church and state in the late Soviet period and in the first decade of the existence of the Russian Federation. The article examines the transformation of the policy of state structures in relation to the Orthodox religion - from the desire to subjugate the Russian Orthodox Church to a constructive dialogue. Authors examine a set of problems that the Russian Orthodox Church faced during the period under review and the degree of assistance provided to it by the Soviet, and then the Russian federal authorities.
