Russian roulette: Serbian pop culture and global soft-power conflict
This article focuses on the recent Russian and Serbian pop-political entanglement. Russians usually rely on hard-power elements like military, energy and economics, but in the last several years they became active as sport club sponsors, telecommunication provider’s partners and film producers. The article examines the latter phenomenon of increasing presence of Russian characters within Serbian media culture, whether it is domestic, Russian or American production, like in the case of Stranger Things, where a Serbian actor Nikola Đuričko plays a Russian smuggler. The central figure though is young actor Miloš Biković, hired many times by Russian film producers in the last decade. His film The Balkan Line (2019) is examined in this article as a representative of Russian soft-power influence as well as their geopolitical stance. The Balkan Shadows (2017–present) and Stranger Things (2016–present) are analysed as pro-western counterparts in this superpower struggle within Serbian media culture.

The paper presents the results of research about specifics of gross domestic product production in Russia using the tool of econometrics – production functions apparatus. Also, there are quantitatively found answers on questions, which have theoretical and methodological significance. First question – what has a decisive influencing on the production of gross domestic product in Russia, whether it is stocks or investments into the main fund? It was found that the decisive influence on the production of gross domestic product in Russia comes from investments into the main fund. Weak dependency of gross domestic product in Russia on capital stocks explains the inappropriateness of using capital stocks as a parameter of fund in production functions. Second question – what is the exact type of indicators that is preferred to use for characterizing the components of production function in conditions of the Russian economy – cost or natural? It is defined that is it possible to use both – cost terms indicators and indexes of physical volume. However, mining specifics of Russian economy defines the preference of using indexes of physical volume. Third question – what is the quality of economic growth of Russian economy during the period between 1996 and 2013? The intensive character of economic growth was found and the input of main factors of production into economic growth of Russian economy was measured. DOI: 10.5901/mjss.2015.v6n5s3p265

The image of masculinity positioning fathers as central figures in earning a living has implications for the lack of paternal involvement in child-rearing, known as fatherlessness or daddy issues. This research uses the film “Stranger Things” (2017) to provide insights into how father involvement is represented. The study aims to understand how elements of father involvement are depicted in the film “Stranger Things” (2017). The research employs Roland Barthes’ semiotic analysis method, which examines the significance of denotation and connotation. The results show that aspects of father involvement represented in the film are divided into four indicators: (1) authoritarian attitude, (2) portrayal of feminist men, (3) role model for children, and (4) temperamental nature. Thus, it can be concluded that father’s involvement in child-rearing can open new windows into breaking the boundaries of the image of masculinity in societal reality.

Globalization as a process has many aspects such as economical, political, social and cultural one. All of these aspects in their own way are contributing to the development of the modern society, in which we do have positive and negative processes. Conflicts are one of those negative processes that needs to be managed, in order to achieve relatively stable level of them. Cultural conflicts are no exception from that. Besides the definition of the terms such as globalization, culture and cultural conflicts, in this paper there are explanations of types of cultural conflicts and the ways of their resolving One of the key parts of this paper is dedicated to the 'Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions', which was defined and promoted by UNESCO. That Convention was approved by our Government in 2009. and Ministry for Culture is responsible for its implementation. One of the key purposes of this Convention is to protect national cultures, with the respect of other cultures, and by doing that we can institutionally decrease the level of cultural conflicts.

The paper provides a comparative analysis of labour productivity in resource-dependent and non-resource regions of Russia. We focus on resource-dependent regions because they significantly contribute to Russia’s gross domestic product and labour productivity is a driver for economic development. We also identify and estimate the determinants of labour productivity in resource-dependent and non-resource regions. We find that the aggregate indicator of labour productivity in resource-dependent regions is much higher than that in their non-resource counterparts. The regions with the dominant oil and gas sector have the highest labour productivity in Russia. The analysis revealed that, for non-resource regions, the key factors affecting labour productivity are fixed capital, real wages and innovations. In resource regions, the main driver of labour productivity growth is investment in fixed assets during deposit development while innovation does not play a significant role. However, the experience of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug shows that the use of new technologies and innovations can increase oil and gas production, extend the period of deposit development and improve labour productivity.

The article presents the results of analytical studies of the main economic characteristics of pig production in Russia. Theoretical and methodological basis was developed according to the works on the theory of strategic management. The information base for the study was formed upon the data from the Federal State Statistics Service of Russia, National Union of Swine Breeders, AFK Group of Companies (St. Petersburg), expert-analytical center of agribusiness (Maykop), annual reports of the largest Russian agricultural holdings. On the whole, the industry is attractive in terms of opportunities for development and viability of investment. Annual production volumes are 3.5 million tons of pork in slaughter weight, or about 300-400 billion rubles. The market is growing at a rate of at least 5% per year, but growth rates are slowing. The industry is highly consolidated; 20 large vertically integrated holdings provide 62% of output. Pig products are standardized and intended for further processing; price competition prevails in the markets. Self-sufficiency in domestic products has exceeded 90% in recent years. The share of import has significantly decreased. The industry is characterized by high capital intensity; the cost of investment projects is estimated in the billions of rubles. Innovative development of pig production in Russia has been adopting imported technologies and developments. The level of dependence on imported machinery and equipment, breeding materials, feed additives and veterinary drugs is critical. The industry is attractive upon profitability criterion (industry profitability rate is above the average for the economy).

Review of Icarus Films' Seventeen The 1985 Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize Documentary winner, Seventeen was produced for PBS in 1982 by Peter Davis and directed, photographed, and edited by Joel DeMott and Jeff Kreines. It is the most revealing, the most controversial, and (at 118 minutes) the longest of the six documentaries that comprise the 457minute Middletown Film Project, an ambitious attempt to capture the nitty-gritty cadence of life in 1982 Muncie, Indiana, that was inspired by earlier sociological texts Middletown: A Study in Modern American Culture (1929) and Middletown in Transition: A Study in Cultural Conflicts (1937), Robert and Helen Lynd's landmark anthropological investigations of Muncie in the 1920s. The other five documentaries in The Middletown Film Project- which examine politics, religion, high-school sports, marriage and divorce, and a struggling family-owned business- were broadcast on PBS in 1982, but Seventeen was never aired on TV (although it was subsequently released in theaters) due to its more incendiary content: an earthy mix of disrespect for authority, foul language, drunkenness, pot-smoking, interracial sex, and just hanging out that the executives at PBS preferred to believe was an accurate portrayal of American youth. Yet, what was shocking to the point of being ostensibly incredible in 1982 is all too easy to credit today, and from a contemporary perspective the most surprising element of Seventeen is its contemner se but the fact that the filmmakers were so able to elicit such candor and unselfconscious openness from their subjects, the seniors at Southside High School, their teachers, and their parents. Seventeen is a grainy, warty, heaping slice of life in the 1980s that, through this 2010 Icarus Films Home Video release of the entire Middletown Film Project, can finally find its small-screen authence. Kiss my ass, says Michelle to her high school home economics teacher Miss Hartley, and her desk-mate Lynn then announces that her mother has promised to beat the shit out of the teacher if she gives her daughter another F. Thus begins Seventeen, which follows a group of seniors through their final year at racially integrated Southside with a leisurely, even languid pace that reflects how unremarkable and commonplace such ostensibly scandalous behavior really is. Lynn, a lively, bright, attractive, and likable brunette, is the central figure in this engagingly honest and strangely timeless expose of the American teenage experience. Some black students are shown smoking marijuana at home. The next day in school, the government teacher discusses the class project, writing a letter to the president. Back to Miss Hartley's class, where it clear that students are at all good at following directions, and then home with Lynn, who introduces her black boyfriend John Vance to her white family. Southside wins the Senior Day basketball game, but the coach nonetheless chews out the team for being more preoccupied with girls than with basketball. And back in home economics, Miss Hartley is surprised to learn that Robert has impregnated Kim, but does plan to marry her, while Lynn and Michelle agree that Robert is not stupid as Robert just laughs it off, admitting We wasn't going together when it happened, that was a mistake. . . . My mother was happy; it's her first grandchild. Both Robert and Kim are black. The students, who consistently throw the word fuck around a lot - sometimes creatively-attend a local carnival, but on the ride home Lynn and a white friend, Tink, are upset that their black boyfriends would publicly acknowledge them; they argue that they are the ones risking their reputations because we're seen with one of you guys ain't no white dude ever gonna touch us again, and after you guys are seen with a white girl, ain't nobody cares. While doing much research in the library, another of Lynn's white friends tells her, I could read a dirty book and be interested; why these books don't thrill me. …

The article summarizes, systematizes and analyzes the documentary material on the history of creation and development of domestic non-ferrous metallurgy at the modern scientific and methodological level. The dynamics of transformation of its role in providing the centers of artillery production in Russia with non-ferrous metals in the ХVІ–ХVІІІ centuries is shown. At the same time, new historical materials on the history of Russian artillery production not having been put into scientific circulation were attracted. The main sources of supply of non-ferrous metals intended for use in domestic centers of artillery production are identified. The formation of the legislative framework regulating the turnover of non-ferrous metals in Russia is characterized. It is shown that the solution of key issues of providing the centers of artillery production in Russia with non-ferrous metals in the ХVІ–ХVІІІ centuries. largely depended on the support of the central government. Ivan III and Ivan IV had an initial positive impact on the settlement of issues analyzed in the article. Their initiatives were continued by Peter I, who completed the creation of a system of mining and processing of non-ferrous metals in Russia. In the first half of the ХVІІІ century. our state has freed itself from foreign dependence in the field of metal supplies. In the last quarter of the ХVІІІ century Catherine II did much in the field considered by the author. During her reign, the infrastructure of metal turnover was created between the non-ferrous metal mining (processing) industries and domestic artillery production centers.

The aim of this research is to discover the value of peace conveyed by Haewon Sangsaeng, the Resolution of Grievances for Mutual Beneficence, as espoused by Holy Teacher Kang Jeungsan (姜甑山, 1871~1909) and to evaluate its modern significance. To the faithful, Jeungsan is seen as the Supreme God who descended into the world in the Late Joseon Dynasty in the year 1871. Until the time of His passing away into Heaven in 1909, He vastly saved the world and fulfilled the hopes of humankind by carrying out the fundamentally innovative Reordering Works of Heaven and Earth (1901~1909) in the Three Realms of Heaven, Earth, and Humanity. He has thereby been appraised as a great religious figure within religious and academic circles. Jeungsan’s ideological contributions can be summarized into two main points. One is the concept of ‘the Great Opening and the Later World,’ which foreshadowed the liquidation of the old system of order and the arrival of a new world. The other contribution is the concept of ‘the Resolution of Grievances for Mutual Beneficence,’ a fundamental principle meant to achieve human salvation and world peace. In this context, ‘the Great Opening’ is precisely a ‘positivistic religious expression of peace,’ and ‘the Resolution of Grievances for Mutual Beneficence’ is the principle by which ‘peace can be achieved in the world for all humankind.’ In particular, the Resolution of Grievances for Mutual Beneficence is a tenet within the doctrine of Daesoon Jinrihoe, and it is the main concept that forms the basis of Daesoon Thought. It can be said to be the core current that flows through Jeungsan’s Reordering Works of Heaven and Earth. Nowadays, the Resolution of Grievances for Mutual Beneficence is being discussed and cited in various ways in academic fields as well as in discourse on coexistence, mutual beneficence, and peace. The Resolution of Grievances for Mutual Beneficence is specifically based on observations of the structure of conflicts as observed throughout world history via global conflicts, regional conflicts, cultural conflicts, ideological conflicts, class conflicts, generational conflicts, racial conflicts, religious conflicts, and other such conflicts. That is why the Resolution of Grievances for Mutual Beneficence is discussed in depth within academic settings wherein the nature of conflict-resolution is examined. Looking at the previous studies on this topic, those studies tended to focus on key concepts or concerns such as human beings, divine beings, the earthly paradise of the Later World, ideal societies, world peace, new principles of order, and lasting peace. In particular, the Resolution of Grievances for Mutual Beneficence has been presented as directly related to concepts such as love, coexistence, harmony, and peace for humankind and the world. Its significance has been applied to ethics, philosophy, order, and principles, and it has been understood as conveying values such as peace. Accordingly, this paper examines the ideological connections to the succession and establishment of Jeungsan’s notion of the Resolution of Grievances for Mutual Beneficence based on previous research, but further examines the value of peace communicated via the principles and ideas that pervade current discourse on the Resolution of Grievances for Mutual Beneficence. I hope to thoroughly explore Haewon Sangsaeng in regards to its modern significance to the world and to humankind.

In modern market conditions, the dependence of the Russian economy on imports has changed significantly. Import substitution has always been a pressing problem in Russia. According to statistics, our country receives too many goods and services through imports, and after the introduction of sanctions by the West, this problem worsened even more. Issues of import substitution are strategically important; the level of growth, development and defense capability of the national economy depends on their solution [1]. Previously, the structure of imports was dominated by consumer goods, but currently their importance for the Russian economy has noticeably decreased. Consumer imports decreased significantly nominally and in reality relative to the output of similar domestic construction products in Russia. At the same time, there is an increase in the production dependence of the Russian market on imports. The main indicator characterizing the scale of dependence of the Russian economy on imports is its share in enterprise expenses for raw materials, materials, purchased semifinished products and components for the production and sale of products. The work identified technological problems of import substitution of smart technologies and carried out a comparative analysis of the nomenclature and prices for domestic and foreign products of smart home elements.

After the introduction of Western countries economic sanctions against Russia, the import substitution became one of economic development priorities. It must be clarified , that the achievement of desired results in this field can’t be instantaneous. First, you must understand that the selfsufficiency presents for such for a large country as Russia a permanent condition for its sustainable development. As estimated by Japanese specialists, in the eighties of the last century, the Soviet Union, conscious of the economic security, occupied in this regard the first place, the United States the second place in the world, while Germany and Japan were far lagging behind them. Now, due to the policy of Russia’s integration into the global economy carried out in the last decades we found ourselves in many kinds of products beyond the threshold of safety. While in no case seeking to isolate themselves, we are going to reduce the import dependence. Secondly, it should be borne in mind that excessive imports depress domestic industry designed to meet the needs we are now importing. On the other side, we can’t immediately abandon the import of goods satisfying the needs. We can regard the task of import substitution as performed only after domestic products will be completely able to substitute the import on the domestic market To do so, we need time and thoroughly considered plan of action. The authors propose a strategic framework, on the basis of which it is possible to build the import substitution program. According to the authors, we can immediately begin developing and executing the program , without waiting for foreign investment.

The purpose of the research is to analyse the market for dual-use industrial products in Russia and to make a forecast of its development through the example of the machinery and technical products export. The factors that affect the functioning of the dual-use product market are highlighted, including gross domestic product, the volatility index, oil price, and the dollar index. A multiplicative dynamic series decomposition model was used to forecast the export of dual-use machinery and technical products. It has been established that the export of dual-use machinery and technical products is characterised by a decrease in the medium-term forecast period (2020–2024). To intensify market development, priority areas for cooperation and expansion of joint projects in the military-industrial complex have been formulated. The practical significance of the results obtained is the ability to determine the points of innovative growth of the dual-use industrial products market in Russia.
