Abstract

It is shown that the main effect of the medium on the kinetics and mechanism of cationic polymerization and copolymerization of heterocyclics is manifested through the effect of nucleophilic solvation of reactive centres by components of the system. A change in the conditions of solvation can be attained both by changing the nature of the solvent and by introducing small amounts of additives consisting of compounds which solvate mainly either the cation of counterion. The sensitivity of the processes under study to the reaction medium provides a basis for drawing conclusions on the mechanism of the reactions and the nature of the active centres.
