Abstract

Emergence of electronic commerce (e-commerce) had changed the nature of the trade in the world. India has the third largest internet users base in the world after the United States and China. It clearly visualises the scope of ecommerce in India. E-commerce is considered to give a significant benefit to MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) by giving them a platform for their exposure to the world. Nagaland, a northeastern state of India, has the huge potential for the growth of MSMEs. This study has been undertaken to understand the role of e-commerce in the development of MSMEs. The primary survey has been conducted in the Dimapur district of Nagaland among the targeted respondents using personal interview and questionnaire method. Convenience sampling method was used to collect data from 100 respondents. During survey, it has been found that there is a significant growth of ecommerce ventures in Dimapur district of Nagaland with a view to sell ‘Made in Nagaland’ products to the rest of the world. The data collected were analysed through descriptive statistic method and percentage method. It has been concluded that e-commerce plays a supportive role for the growth of MSMEs in the state.
