Abstract

From study of the thermoluminescence of polymer dielectrics exposed to an electric field with a voltage ⩾10 7 V/m and rhe temperature dependence of mechanical durability with simultaneous application of a strong electric field it is shown that the relaxation phenomena and the charged particles formed in the volume of the sample play an essential role in changing the mechanical properties of polymers in the electric field. The main cause of change in mechanical durability of polymers in a strong electric field is the dynamic perturbation of the molecular bonds by the accelerated electrons and perturbation of the molecule through the energy of recombination phenomena.
