Abstract
Chaos is a popular phenomenon in nature, and its use in the area of wireless communication drew attraction in the early 90s. Recently, the use of chaos-based spread spectrum (SS) communication is becoming popular. Many research papers have been devoted to chaos-based SS communication—mainly on synchronization issues. In this paper, first the study of chaos theory is presented and second, the role of chaos in spread spectrum has been discussed. The detailed survey of the role of chaos in spread spectrum communication system is also given in the paper and then the discussion extends to chaos-based direct sequence spread spectrum (CBDSS) communication, which is relatively a new and advanced area for researchers to explore new possibilities for future wireless communication. Issues related to synchronization in chaos have also been addressed, along with applications, challenges, and open-research issues.
