Abstract
In order to achieve Low Probability of Intercept (LPI) in hostile environments and increase robustness when the transmitted signal is distorted by multipath propagation, Spread Spectrum (SS) methods are often employed. In this paper, a Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) communication system using chaotic spreading sequences is designed for low bit rate covert underwater digital communication at poor propagation conditions usually encountered in shallow water. System design is described in detail and trail results are provided to show the performance.
