Abstract

Professor David Dudgeon is Head of the Department of Ecology & Biodiversity at the University of Hong Kong, where he works on the stream ecology and biodiversity conservation. A particular concern is the difficulty of translating scientific knowledge into conservation action, and the need to highlight awareness of the plight of aquatic biodiversity in Asia. Professor Dudgeon has written three books and published over 100 scientific papers. As co-coordinator of a biodiversity survey of Hong Kong, he is currently involved in making recommendations to government for improvement of the territory’s protected-areas system.
