Abstract

Abstract During the period of 1934–1937, the cultural atmosphere of revivalism was magnified by the New Life Movement (新生活运动, Xinshenghuo yundong). Within this period, certain films of cultural conservatism (文化保守主义, Wenhua baoshou zhuyi) were produced. These films, whose modern significance has been overlooked until recently, tended to be treated simply in the traditional narrative of film history.
