Abstract

The review presents an analysis of S. V. Chiruk’s book, which provides a translation of two blocks of sources of the history of the Swedish colonists of Ukraine. This is a book by the Swedish linguist Anton Karlgren, who in 1905 visited the Swedish colony in southern Ukraine to study the speech of its people. Another block is a Finnish- Swedish- language press report on Old Shvedsk in the second half of the 19th century. The author of the reviewed book, S. Chiruk, became the first Ukrainian researcher to discover, translate and publish a Swedish historiographical source of his own origin. The publication of the book will expand the field of interpretation for future studies of the history of the Swedish population of Ukraine in the pre-revolutionary period.
