Research Article| October 01 2017 Rev. Anthony J. Kuzniewski, S.J. 1945–2016 James S. Pula James S. Pula James S. Pula is professor of history at Purdue University North Central. The author and editor of more than a dozen books on the Polish diaspora and the American Civil War, he served as editor-in-chief of The Polish American Encyclopedia (McFarland, 2011) and was the editor of the academic journal Polish American Studies for some 33 years. His work has been honored with the Mieczysław Haiman Award for sustained scholarly contributions, the Distinguished Service Award from the American Council for Polish Culture, three Oskar Halecki Prizes for various books, the Rudewicz Medal, and the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.
