Abstract

This article deals with the reactivation of Rhetoric as the general science of text. General Rhetoric, in which linguistic and poetic studies are included, becomes the most complete science in the analysis of literary and non-literary discourse. The recovery of the genuine state of Rhetoric, with Poetics and the utilization of the categories of Text Linguistics, is felt to be the best way of establishing General Rhetoric, in which the study of elocutio is given an adequate place, and the role of inventio, dispositio and actio is stressed. The author sets up the specialization, as Literary Rhetoric, of a very important section within General Rhetoric. This Literary Rhetoric is constituted by the contribution of both classical Rhetoric and classical and linguistic Poetics.
