Abstract

Abstract We have investigated possible saturation effects in a National Bureau of Standards “P2” ionization chamber used in intense pulsed bremsstrahlung beams. At peak incident power levels up to 10 W/cm 2 , no saturation was found within our 0.5% sensitivity. At 75 W/cm 2 , a 4% effect is indicated. This is presumed to be the result of ion recombination in the air-filled chamber. Substitution of dry nitrogen in a sealed chamber is recommended.
