Abstract

Perspectives on how academic research laboratories can improve to improve safety culture, enhance training in safe procedures, and raise awareness about risks and best practices are presented. The selection of resources that can help researchers, principle investigators, or departments implement or improve safety initiatives is a point of emphasis. The chapter focuses on three “pillars of laboratory safety”: a culture of safety, comprehensive and researcher-centered training, and safety knowledge and awareness.
