Abstract

In order to further understand the current status, hot spots and development trends of the “empty chair technique” in psychological counselling, this study pinpointed the “empty chair technique” from the advanced search on the Internet and retrieved 274 articles from 1953 to 2022. Using CiteSpace and the topic model, a visual analysis of the research on “empty chair technique” in the last sixty years in the context of psychological counseling was conducted. The aim is to provide a mapping and quantitative analysis of the current situation, hotspots, and development trends of research on empty chair technology in counselling in China, and to propose ideas for future research directions in order to provide theoretical references for the practice of empty chair technology in counselling in China.
