Abstract
Holography is a technology for recording and reconstructing wave fronts and represents an important advancement in the field of displays. Conventional holography has many limitations, such as small field of view, low resolution, multilevel diffraction, small spatial bandwidth product, and so on, which brings great inconvenience to the application of holography in life scenes. Metasurface is an artificial material composed of sub-wavelength unit structure, which has excellent electromagnetic modulation capabilities. It is simple to manufacture and diversified in design, which can solve the limitations brought by some traditional optical devices. This paper reviews the development process of metasurface holography, and introduces some research results of static metasurface holography and dynamic metasurface holography in recent years. Metasurface holography has a significant potential for development in dynamic display, optical encryption, optical information processing and so on.
