Abstract
Matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) is one of protein hydrolysis enzymes,whose main function is able to cleave much protein components of extracellular matrix.Recent findings have shown that there is a functional polymorphism in MMP-1 gene promoter,which is able to regulate genetic transcription and protein expression through different cellular signal transduction pathways,therefore,which has an important effect on structure and function of MMP-1 and is closely related to happening of numerous diseases,especially,MMP-1 polymorphism plays an important role in respiratory system diseases.
