Abstract

IN RECENT years interest has been shown by many workers in the study of unidentified factors necessary for hatchability of chicken and turkey eggs. Unidentified hatchability factors were demonstrated in several ingredients as reviewed by Ferguson et al. (1958). These workers reported increases in hatchability of turkey eggs from hens fed diets supplemented with fish solubles, liver fraction “L,” distillers dried solubles, condensed fish solubles, dehydrated alfalfa meal, dried whey and dried brewers’ yeast.Couch et al. (1950) obtained an increase in the hatchability of fertile eggs when the diet of the laying hen was supplemented with dried whey and fish solubles. The work of Arscott and Combs (1953) was in agreement with the latter in which increased hatchability was obtained when condensed fish solubles was incorporated into the diet of the laying hen.Waibel et al.
