Abstract
This chapter presents a panel discussion on the impact of microcomputers in industry. China is a developing country. The year 1984 can be marked as a year of big impact by the microcomputer on the Chinese industry. Some of Chinese made instruments have upgraded by using microcomputer such as geology, hydrology, agricultural, metallurgical, environment protection, medical, and electrical instruments. A multi-microcomputer-distributed system has been implemented in a Chinese hydropower station. This system increases the generation capacity by 2%. Microcomputers are used to help in the commercial production and manufacturing systems for inventory control, data storage, salary calculation, and other simple production control and planning. Microcomputers are used in automation. Programmable controllers based on microcomputers are widely used in sequential control, mainly for injection molding machines, electroplating, and other machine tools, and machining processes.
