Abstract

The remote voltage generation was successfully realized by the sono-electrochemical process. It was resulted from the formation of surface oxygen species and subsequent oxidation of adsorbed poisoning species over the platinum surface under the irradiation of ultrasound. The irradiation of ultrasound effectively oxidized the carbon monoxide on the platinum, which could be a new option for the removal of carbon monoxide. Under the irradiation of ultrasound (frequency = 100 kHz), we obtained the static voltage of 50 mV in the methanol solution, 40 mV in the ethanol solution, and 100 mV in the glucose solution. The voltage could be controlled by the selection of organics, change of frequency and time of application. Our results bring out a unique application of the ultrasound as the removal of carbon monoxide and remote voltage generation devices, and sensors. This may also have an immense potential in biomedical applications.
