Abstract

The present study extended a recent study by Stack, by showing that the proportion of Catholics in a region (the states of the USA) was negatively related to the suicideand homicide rates. Whereas the relationship with suicide rate was eliminated by controlling for the proportion of divorced persons in the regions, the relationship with homicide rates appeared to be more robust.
