Abstract
This invited paper aims at highlighting the formalities and procedures, a production unit must ensure to achieve the desired levels of quality and reliability in the manufacture and quality control of professional grade electronic components and the expected reliability assurance one could build-in the long life professional electronic equipment manufactured with components which incorporate such zero defect measures.The need for appropriate disciplines of standardisation at all levels at the user-end is stressed and the relevant measures are suggested.The necessary engineering and production technologies in the manufacture of components with desired standards of Reliability and quality are highlighted.The inevitable cost factors due to such an infrastructure including overheads are outlined.
