Abstract
ABSTRACT The objective of the study was to validate the effectiveness of the Hindi version of UCLA Loneliness Scale Version 3 (UCLA LS3). A sample of 322 healthy participants completed the 20-item loneliness scale which was translated into Hindi alongside other questionnaires. Confirmatory factor analysis results showed that both the 2-factor and 3-factor models fit well to the data, whereas the 1-factor model did not fit as effectively and showed poor fit to the data. The Hindi version of UCLA LS3 demonstrated strong internal consistency, and a positive association was found between UCLA LS3 and a measure of depression supported the discriminant validity of the scale. These findings affirm the reliability and validity of the Hindi version of UCLA LS3, emphasizing its usefulness in assessing loneliness in this community. This study contributes to the cross-cultural validation of the UCLA LS3, offering a valuable tool for researchers and clinicians dealing with Hindi-speaking populations.
