Abstract

This chapter discusses the relaxation oscillations and turbulence. The phenomenon of turbulence occurs not only in the motion of fluids but also in the motion of a rigid body and even in the motion of a particle. The problem of the existence of an absolutely continuous invariant measure for a given transformation T of the unit interval into itself is very difficult. The phenomenon of turbulence occurs in many important technical systems that can be described by the one-dimensional oscillator and the reflection law. Such a physical situation occurs in the process of solid friction. Even for elastic bodies, like steel, the small (in the amplitude) collisions of rubbing surfaces are non-elastic.
