Abstract
The relative yields of metastable (6 2P 3 2 ) and ground- (6 2P 1 2 ) state atomic thallium produced after the photodissociation of TlCl, TlBr and TlI by the output of a rare-gas halide laser operating at 193, 222, 249, 308 and 353 nm have been measured. Resonance-line and broadband absorption spectroscopy have been used to determine the temporal evolution of the metastable and ground-state densities, allowing the measurement of the relative yields to halide densities in excess of 10 16 cm −3.
