Abstract

The article examines the process of adopting the Directive on improving working conditions in platform work. It focuses on the legal presumption of employment status, allowing self-employed to turn into employees. The paper analyses the stances of social partners and discussions in the European Parliament and the Council of the EU on the Directive. The key issue is the essence of the digital work platform and platform work. The article reveals alternative approaches to platform work of EU social policy actors and their common views, which can provide grounds for compromise.
