Abstract

This article reports on the colloquium held at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, on November 23rd, 2006, for the launch of the book «Introduction to Brazilian Law». The various chapters of this book have been written by Brazilian and French-Brazilian young scholars, living or having recently lived in France. They provide an authoritative overview to essential issues of Brazilian law for French-speaking lawyers. This article summarizes and synthesizes the contributions of Professors Michel Fromont, Jean-Michel Blanquer, Bénédicte Fauvarque-Cosson, Stéphane Monclaire, and Eros Roberto Grau (judge at the Brazilian Supreme Court). Some relevant subjects such as the contribution of comparative law, the originality of Latin American legal systems and Brazilian Law are here reported.
