Abstract
It is necessary to study the historical controversy supported by specialists of different philosophical tendencies around power and national sovereignty. The following hypothesis is considered: the analysis from a contemporary critical socio-historical perspective about power and national sovereignty allows us to explain these categories and their effect on the nation-state, based on the impact that the phenomenon of neoliberal globalization produces in the context of a world system in crisis. The dialectical-materialist approach is used, which allows historical analysis from a critical perspective. The qualitative research paradigm is followed, based on a historical, explanatory approach with greater flexibility. The main empirical method used is documentary analysis. In addition, theoretical level methods are used: the principle of the unity of the historical and the logical and analysis with synthesis throughout the entire investigation, the movement method of ascent from the abstract to the concrete, by overcoming the dichotomy between the inductive and deductive that requires unveiling the determinations of reality in its contradictory and historical development. The main theoretical result is to reveal how the enormous inter-state asymmetries are hidden behind international relations, as well as the strategies and various tactics of domination of the ruling nations in the economic and political arena based on global capital.
