Abstract

Stricter emissions norms and poor air quality resulted in the searching for eco-friendly fuels for automobiles. Fossil fuel burning is the major cause of pollutants such as nitrogen oxide (NOX), hydrocarbon (HC), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2) and particulate matter (PM). Ethanol is one of the best feasible alternative energy sources out of the eco-friendly fuels available for use in automobiles. Ethanol can be blended and used in conventional gasoline engines with ease. Ethanol blending is achieved at various percentages to analyze the effect on exhaust emission constituents. Results depicted that ethanol-blended gasoline can reduce PM, CO and HC emissions significantly while variations are visible in case of NOX and CO2 emissions.
