Abstract
Distraction osteogenesis using the Ilizarov method is a biological reconstruction technique used for the management oflarge bone defects that consists of regenerating the defect by shifting a segment of bone under the principles of tensionstress, using an external fixator. Two examples of this surgical procedure are bone transport and bone Shortening-lengthening. The initial management, sequential treatment and final result of two cases in which these techniques were used between 2018 and 2023 are shown in this paper. However, these are complex procedures, not exempt from serious complications, which require a multidisciplinary approach for a proper skin coverage and sometimes prolonged antibiotic therapies. For these reasons they should be performed entirely at Referring Hospitals.
