Abstract

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the quality on the social netwok TikTok related to the treatment of meniscal tears. Material and methods: The first 50 videos were selected, analyzing authorship, duration and various metrics, such as followers, visits, likes, duration, comments and forwards. The DISCERN questionnaire, the global quality scale (GQS), the PEMAT score and the JAMA assessment were used to evaluate the quality of the information. The popularity of the videos was measured with the VPI index. Results: We did not find videos of academic origin. The average duration is 51.5 seconds. The videos accumulate an average of 334 531 followers and 318 412 visits. The videos had a mean DISCERN score of 24.2, GCS of 1.55, PEMAT of 8.36 and JAMA of 0.65. The VPI index is 3.71. Conclusions: The results show that the quality of videos on TikTok about the treatment of meniscal tears is generally low.
