Abstract
T articles published in the December 17, 2013, issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine all failed to fi nd evidence that use of multivitamin supplementation had any benefi cial effects on outcomes such as all-cause mortality, cardiovascular (CV) disease, cancer, or cognitive function. An accompanying editorial in the same issue concluded that supplementing the diet of well-nourished adults with (most) mineral or vitamin supplements has no clear benefi ts and might even be harmful. The editorial went on to say that the “case is closed” on multivitamin use being benefi cial.
