Abstract

Abstract A short survey is given of recent advances in the field of photo-cross-linkable polymers. New synthetic approaches to known photosensitive polymers as well as new polymers are described. The photosensitization mechanism of cinnamic derivatives is examined in detail and the most striking arguments in favor of a triplet-triplet energy transfer process are discussed. The photosensitization mechanism of azido derivatives has also been taken into consideration. New sensitizers are described and fluorescence quenching experiments with anthracene are mentioned. Monoradical photo-cross-linking systems based on polymers carrying lateral unsaturation, photolabile groups, or photoreducible dye fragments are discussed. Finally, some remarks about future trends on the photo-cross-linking field are formulated.
