Abstract

This research aims to utilize the TK4S-T4RN module made by Autonics, to produce a trainer module for students that will help students understand the PID (Proportional, Integral, Derivative) control system using an industrial-grade module. TK4S-T4RN is a temperature control module, which is equipped with 2 control algorithms that are widely used in the industry, namely the on–off method and PID. The module is also equipped with an internal relay that can produce the control signal needed by the actuator system. In addition, TK4S-T4RN can communicate with the computer through the RS-485 serial interface using Modbus protocol so that the control process can be displayed in real-time. The module will also be equipped with an actuator system to manipulate the temperature conditions and a sensor system to read the temperature. All three main parts: the controller, sensor systems, and actuator systems will be integrated into an industrial plant simulator. The results indicate that the trainer module can work properly as a learning tool for students with feasibility score = 80%, and also during several test PD controllers module can execute the desired task best with Proportional Band(%PB) = 1 and derivative time(td) = 1 s, that obtained overshoot (%MP) = 0 and settling time (ts) = 74 s.
