Abstract

Radiated emission arising from power distribution planes which consists of a power and a ground plane in multilayer printed circuit boards (PCBs) is investigated. Inductance in the power conductors has been considered by treating these planes as a parallel-plate transmission line interconnected by decoupling capacitors. The radiation from four-layer PCBs are examined in connection with the transmission characteristic of the line. From the transmission line theory it is deduced that the line resonance gives rise to strong radiated emissions.
