Abstract

Multilocular peritoneal inclusion cyst, also known as benign multicystic mesothelioma, is a rare lesion found on the peritoneal surface. The etiology is unknown but the lesion usually occurs in premenopausal women.Clinically the most frequent findings are chronic pain, a palpable mass and distension of the abdomen, although this cyst can also be asymptomatic or present as an acute abdomen. The diagnosis is usually given by ultrasonography and the currently recommended primary therapy is surgical excision, although high recurrence rates have been reported. We report the case of a 24- year-old woman with acute abdominal pain managed by laparoscopy and removal of the mass.
