Abstract

We passed pure ribosomes from rat and kidney-bean through a radioactive rat liver post-microsomal supernatant. Although the total ribosomal protein fraction from both species became apparently labelled, fractionation of the proteins under suitable conditions indicated that they were not labelled. We thus question the possibility of extensive protein exchange between ribosomes and post-ribosomal supernatant.
