Abstract

Bioskin is a natural polymer produced by Acetobacter xylinum and several yeasts in culture. It contains aminosugars which promote ionic adsorption of catalase. Half-life time of immobilized catalase is about 26.5 days whereas soluble enzyme is inactivated after 3 days at room temperature. Two classes of catalase subunits are separated by capillary zone electrophoresis from SDS-treated protein whereas four protomers forming two large and two small subunits are visualized by scanning electron microscopy of a preparation of bioskin-immobilized catalase.
